Tight AND Sassy

Super excited for the MCO/Art Beat showcase this week at the Uptown Nightclub!!! In case you did not yet hear, Super Natural will be playing along with Mount Whateverest, The Bottle Kids, as well as the Rabbles–yay!

Super Natural is a San Francisco-based trio that serves up a unique and modern take on sixties folk, eighties punk and new wave, nineties indie rock and the timeless themes of love, hate, greed, justice, revolution and struggle. The rich but sometimes edgy lead vocals from singer/songwriter Antonette Goroch blend traditional folk themes and melodies with simple punk power chords and riot grrrl sensibilities that bring diverse comparisons ranging from Mazzy Star, Liz Phair, Penelope Houston and Neko Case to X, Fairport Convention and Pavement. Danny Applebag(aka Danny Lovefinger) and Gregory Coats Piper (aka Horsepucky) solidify the defining rhythms of the groups sound—equal parts tight and sassy.
Super Natural will be releasing their debut EP in April 2014.

I know Christmas is over, but here’s a little Christmas/Anti-War anthem by Super Natural:

And don’t miss their show on January 16th at the Uptown in Oakland. More info about the event here.

Rabble Dabble

In preparation for the MCO/Art Beat show on January 16 at The Uptown Nightclub in Oakland, here is a little bit about The Rabbles who will be playing alongside Mount Whateverest, The Bottle Kids, and Super Natural.

The Rabbles are a psychedelic rock band from San Francisco founded in 2003. It’s members include J.Lee and Marina Lazzara on guitar and vocals, Dave Mairs on drums and backing vocals, Jamie Kimmel on bass, lead and backing vocals and Michael Chulada on organ/keyboards. They play a pastiche of styles influenced by 60′s psychedelia, 70′s and 80′s underground post-punk and various art and noise rock.

The band has recorded 4 albums, Rabble Music (2004), Rabble Rabble (2008), Dabble (2010) and a brand new lp yet to be titled which will be released in the summer of 2012. Each album is self-recorded and is a unique collection of curios spanning lush pop to abrasive dissonance.

The members of The Rabbles have been a part of San Francisco’s music scene for the past two decades. Past bands have included Static Faction, Blue Gum Art, Shmoogie, Ghost Echoes, and The Love X Nowhere.

You can hear some of their songs here, or just come see them at the Uptown.

A Party of Epic Proportions

We at Art Beat are pleased to announce that Mission Creek Oakland is going to kick off its 2014 monthly program at The Uptown Nightclub (every third Thursday) Thursday, January 16 with an evening of signature CA power pop, punk, glam and new wave rock co-produced with Art Beat Foundation. It’s a a party of epic proportions sure to start the new year right.

Headlining the show will be unashamed party rockers from Nevada City, Mount Whateverest. Fresh from their successful Fall 2013 European tour, the band will be celebrating the release of their second CD, Electric City, here in the U.S. this month. Affectionately known as, “a drinking band with a rock & roll problem,” Mount Whateverest serves up a powerful live show which involves high energy driving hooks, no holds barred-from the gut vocal lines, anthemic cries against the man, rampant costumery, on-stage dancers/back up singer/seductresses and projection—one ready to take full advantage of the theatrical production venues at the iconic Uptown.

Joining MWE will be the The Bottle Kids, the latest power-pop masterpiece from Berkeley prodigal son & power pop veteran, Eric Blakely—back in the Bay Area following time on the road with Paul Collins & The Nerve for his “King of Power Pop” release/tour and a ten year stint in Austin, TX. Also on the bill are Oakland based, Super Natural and SF-based, The Rabbles.

So, come on out to the Uptown, January 16 for an amazing show from some of the finest folk musicians to grace our Bay Area!
