Our Mission

Art Beat Foundation was founded in 2010 with the mission of supporting artistic community. We believe that art, in its various forms, plays an important part in any healthy society–and a vibrant community of artists, with strong ties and interactions, is the source of this contribution. We believe artists in general are an “underserved category,” and we seek to support them in their endeavors to create new works, connect with other artists and connect with the larger community.

What We Do

Art Beat Foundation is engaged in three main activities:

Artistic Events

Art Beat produces regular events focused on the exhibition of new works. These events showcase a cross section of artists such as musicians, visual artists, poets and multimedia artists. The emphasis is on collaboration and exhibition, with a high degree of volunteer participation in creating the theme, mood and execution of the events.

Camps & Workshops

Education through connection and collaboration has always been a core element of the Art Beat mission. Past projects include the Art Beat Writers’ Society and Art Beat Rock Camp. Art Beat Rock Camp (2011, 2012, 2013)  was a unique, student-led experience pairing boys and girls, ages 8-16, with working artists and musicians to form a band, develop a set of songs, record and perform them. Camps teach practical skills for creating, performing and documenting music, but also focus on communication, collaboration and independence—skills useful throughout every day life. The Art Beat Writers’ Society is a weekly two and a half hour writing and performance workshop designed to generate new material, workshop pieces, focus on live performance, and create a rich and sustainable community of East Bay writers. 2013 will bring the addition of a variety of new arts workshops for all ages!

Resource Center & Project Support

Art Beat is proud to act as a support and partner to many established and emerging Bay Area artists and events. Art Beat has been an ongoing  sponsor of Mission Creek Oakland, as well as variety of films a performance events.
